Tidens Tand (The Tooth of Time)
The bronze sculpture by John Olsen is inspired by an elephant tusk. The work combines scientific inspiration with an artistic vocabulary and plays with contrasts between scale and lightness. Olsen sought to reveal the beauty in nature’s transience.
Jacob A. Riis
The bust of journalist and photographer Jacob A. Riis (1849–1914) was created by Gudrun Steen-Andersen. Though cast in bronze, it appears detailed and almost hand-modeled. This expressive quality reflects her practice, emphasizing surface sensitivity.
Ord på vej (Words Along the Way)
The tiled pathway by Laila Westergaard consists of 112 granite tiles engraved with quotations from both contemporary and historical writers and cultural figures, including Hans Christian Andersen, Tove Ditlevsen and Gasolin.
Stele
Stele by Bjørn Nørgaard is cast in gold bronze and mounted on granite. The sculpture reinterprets the classical stele – a surface bearing an inscription – while referencing humanity’s need to mark its existence through monuments.
Dronning Dagmar (Queen Dagmar)
The bronze monument, created by Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen, depicts Dagmar standing in the prow of Junker Strange’s ship, gazing toward the shore in search of her future husband, King Valdemar II. The base relief reflects the death of Queen Dagmar.
Ung pige i bevægelse, Kvinde og Vandstråle (Young girl in motion, Woman and Water jet)
These three sculptures were created by Lisbeth Nielsen. They portray women individually and in small groups. The figures are modeled expressively, with rough surfaces and without detailed facial features. The focus is on movement and bodily form.
To Børn/Søskende/Lille Dreng og Pige (Two Children/Siblings/Little boy and Girl)
The sculptural group To Børn (Two Children) by Hanne Varming depicts a young boy and girl holding hands. The visible traces of the modeling process are characteristic of Varming’s artistic practice, which explores the human figure in all stages of life.
Figure 1 (Madonna)
It is a bronze sculpture by Per Kirkeby located in the garden of Ribe Art Museum. The work’s abstract form investigates the recognizable motif of the Virgin Mary holding the Christ Child.
